Breathing fresh energized air is good for you – Here’s why…
ITS ALL ABOUT IONS – NEGATIVE IONS
Don’t let the word Negative put you off, in this case negative is good. Created by nature they’re found in fresh air especially near waterfalls and beaches, mountains and moorlands; even your local park where the trees create them. Negative Ions make us feel good; they promote positivity, focus and a general sense of well-being. This is why it is so important to get out and about whenever you can and breath in good fresh air as part of a healthful lifestyle.
I go to nature to be soothed and healed, and to have my sense put into order.John Burroughs
Naturally occurring Negative Ions
Negative ions are oxygen atoms or molecules with more electrons than protons. They are created in nature by the crashing effect of water and the movement of air, combined with the forces of the Earth’s natural radiation coming from sunlight.
Highest levels are found near waterfalls, or along the shoreline where waves crash onto the rocks. They’re also prevalent after thunderstorms, often referred to as electrical storms.
How many times have you stepped outside after a thunderstorm and felt the fresh electrically charged air? And didn’t it make you feel good?
Positive Ions on the other hand, have a negative effect on the human body and its performance and they are a by-product of modern living. The huge surge in technology and electrical gadgets in recent decades has caused a catastrophic imbalance in their favour. More positive than negative ions are being produced in and around our homes and working environments, leaving us feeling sluggish, irritable and tired.

Negative Ion Generators
Negative ion purification systems or negative ionizers are readily available, and studies show remarkable figures supporting their beneficial effects.
- They help to prevent respiratory-related illnesses
- They counteract the effects of smoking
- Are a natural anti-depressant
- Encourage positive mental attitude
- Help you to sleep better
However, they are static pieces of equipment which only ‘protect’ you whilst you are within the place in which they are installed. You also need to read the technical data to ensure that the negative ions being produced, outweigh the positive ones being created by the equipment itself.
Creating or installing a water feature with falling water in your home will have a similar effect to that of natural waterfalls. It is the same principle with the same benefits but on a smaller scale. The disturbance of the water causes electrons to break off from the water molecules. These displaced electrons then seek oxygen molecules to provide them with an electric charge; thereby producing negative ions.
Get out into nature and feel the benefits
There is no substitute for good old-fashioned fresh air. Take time out to go for a walk in your local park and breath in deeply; the trees and plants produce those beneficial negative ions. Most of us live within walking distance of a local authority park, it’s there and you’re paying for it out of your council tax, so use it don’t lose it.
Use your weekends and spare time to go a little further and walk by the sea or inland on the moors or in a forest and see how you feel. We guarantee you’ll feel fresh, energised and clear headed.
Look into the incredible benefits of going barefoot and connecting with the earth’s negative charge; you can absorb negative ions through the soles of your feet.
